Petroleum grant funds were used to conduct community outreach, including health monitoring of target area residents. The grant funded numerous Phase I and II environmental site assessments and the development of cleanup plans for sites in the Northwest Brownfields Area of the city.

Hazardous substances grant funds were used to clean up the former Roundhouse property at 1 Court Street between St. Paul and Park Streets on the city's west side. Beginning in the early 1900s, the site was used by the railroad industry for maintenance activities and storage. It was contaminated with polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and metals. Grant funds were also used to support community involvement activities.

Hazardous substances grant funds were used to assess and clean up the Former Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul Rail Yard site located in Spring Valley Township. This 101-acre site was an abandoned railroad property. It was contaminated with PCBs, herbicides, heavy metals, and inorganic contaminants.
Assessment grant funds were used to conduct a Phase II environmental site assessment, develop cleanup plans, and engage the community and other stakeholders about the project.
Cleanup grant funds were used to manage the overall planning and coordination of the project, clean up the site. The site was successfully redeveloped into a solar farm for the Perry community.
