The City of Perry was awarded with a $375,000 grant from the U.S. EPA in August 2023. The target area for this grant is the City of Perry with a focus on the City's Urban Core. Priority sites include a 2.76-acre multi-parcel site with a history of cement production, a blighted vacant former ice cream production site, and a vacant mixed-use two-story building built in 1900.
The City of Perry selected Eocene Environmental Group, Inc. as the Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) to help administer the program. Eocene and the City of Perry will complete the following tasks as part of this program over the course of 4 years.
More details will be housed on this page as the project continues.
1110 2nd Street is a 0.09-acre site located downtown with a vacant two-story mixed-use building constructed in 1900. The site is currently being acquired by the City through Iowa Code 657a Abandoned or Unsafe Buildings. The structure is comprised of first floor commercial and second floor residential. To maintain the historic character of the downtown, the city plans to rehabilitate the site back to a productive mixed-use development. Rehabilitation of this building will strengthen Perry’s identity as a small, historic community.
A Stakeholder meeting was held in early June 2024 to educate community partners about the Perry Brownfields program and gain public insight into community opportunities.
We attended the Farmers' Market to raise community awareness about the grant and learn about other community opportunities.
Please join us for a visioning Open House at the Perry Public Library on Thursday, October 10 from 4-6pm.
